Lightberry Prices Lumi, a Unitree G1-Based 'Social' Humanoid, at $39,990
San Francisco startup Lightberry has opened reservations for Lumi, a humanoid built on Unitree’s G1 hardware and repackaged as a conversational “social” robot, at $39,990. The company’s own product page lists the Founder Edition as shipping in 2026, with no separate deposit terms disclosed there.
The number is worth pausing on. Unitree sells the base G1 chassis itself from $13,500, with EDU configurations reaching into the $70,000s through US resellers. Lightberry is charging roughly triple the entry price for what is, mechanically, the same 29-degree-of-freedom G1 base — extended to 34 DoF with added grippers — running Lightberry’s own software stack instead of Unitree’s. The company’s pitch is the layer on top: an Nvidia Jetson Thor compute module, dual stereo cameras, an 8-microphone beamforming array, and “Lightberry OS,” aimed at tasks like guiding visitors, holding conversations and answering questions rather than manipulation or factory work.
That framing matters for anyone comparing sticker prices across our index. Lumi isn’t a cheaper or more capable G1 — it’s the same body sold through a different channel with a different job description, at a markup that reflects the software and support layer rather than new mechanical capability. Battery life is a modest 2.5–3.5 hours per Lightberry’s own spec, in line with the stock G1’s 2-hour figure.
Whether the arrangement holds is a separate question. Lightberry has described its relationship with Unitree as a supply deal rather than an exclusive one, and has said its software is designed to run on other chassis if needed — a hedge that makes sense given how much of the humanoid supply chain still runs through a small number of Chinese hardware makers. For now, Lumi is a reservation, not a shipped product, and the only price on record is the one Lightberry itself has published.
