UBTech's UWORLD U1 companion humanoid: $16,500 to $136,500, 13,000+ deposits, nobody has one yet

UBTech, the Shenzhen maker better known for the industrial Walker S2, used its June 30 launch event to open preorders for a very different kind of robot: the UWORLD U1, a companion humanoid built to talk, recognize emotions and keep someone company rather than work a factory line.
The pricing spread is wide. The entry model, U1 Lite — a semi-torso unit rather than a full walking body — lists at 119,800 CNY ($16,500) on JD.com, UBTech’s official preorder channel. A mid-tier U1 Pro is on the order page without a confirmed public price. At the top, the full-body U1 Ultra runs 880,000 CNY ($121,000) for the female-styled configuration and 990,000 CNY (~$136,500) for the male one — pricing a “companion” robot closer to a house than a gadget. All variants pack 88 degrees of freedom, sub-500ms response times and a claimed 20-plus emotional states recognized at over 90% accuracy, on 2 to 4 hours of battery life per charge.
A 3,000 CNY deposit has pulled in more than 13,000 reservations since the launch event — a real signal of demand at these price points. What it isn’t is a delivery: UBTech says first units ship no later than September 15, 2026, which means as of today nobody outside the company has actually used one. We’re tagging U1 as preorder, not for-sale, until that changes, and the robot’s page will move to for-sale once shipments confirm the promised specs hold up outside a launch-event demo.
The split with Walker S2 is worth noting: UBTech is now running one product line priced for enterprise deployment ($68k–160k, sold as an industrial worker) and another priced — at the low end — for a consumer who wants a talking robot in the living room. Whether that consumer tier survives contact with actual delivery logistics is the thing to watch next.
