ZEALS Prices Its Wheeled Service Robot D1 From ¥5,000,000 for Japanese Hospitals
Tokyo-based ZEALS opened sales and deployment consultations on August 5 for the D1, a wheeled, dual-arm robot built for reception, patrol, guidance and light transport inside hospitals, factories, warehouses and hotels. Price: ¥5,000,000 per unit, roughly $31,300 at current exchange rates, per the company’s own launch announcement.
That number lands the D1 in the same price band as legged humanoids like AgiBot’s X1 ($19,499) or EngineAI’s SE01 (up to $54,000) — but the D1 isn’t trying to compete with legged humanoids on capability. It rides a wheeled base rather than walking, tops out around 129 cm tall, and runs about 8 hours per charge, according to ZEALS. The pitch is narrower and more mundane than most humanoid news: a machine that can navigate hospital corridors and elevators, greet visitors, and carry light items, without the fall risk or cost of bipedal locomotion.
ZEALS calls the D1 “semi-domestic” — designed and assembled in Japan, with some components sourced overseas. That’s a more modest claim than the “fully domestic” framing some Japanese robotics announcements reach for, and it’s worth taking at face value rather than rounding up.
The company’s own target is telling: rather than a unit-sales figure, ZEALS is aiming for 100 units produced and 10,000 cumulative operating hours within fiscal 2026, starting with hospital and eldercare pilots. That’s a production ramp, not a shipped fleet — there’s no track record yet of the D1 working a real shift, and Japan’s labor-shortage narrative has attracted plenty of robots that never got past the pilot stage.
