What $3,000 or less actually buys you as of 2026-09 is a desktop robot arm, a passive exoskeleton, a small quadruped, or a service bot — five categories, real prices, real checkout pages. This guide lists all eleven and is honest about what each one is not.

Under $1,000: one robot, and it’s tiny
Microduck, from Pollen Robotics (now owned by Hugging Face), is the only sub-$1,000 entry on this list — and the only humanoid-shaped one. It’s a 25 cm, 0.8 kg open-source desktop biped that opened for pre-order at $399 on 2026-08-27, before tax and shipping, the same price across all four colorways. First deliveries are targeted before Christmas 2026. It ships with an open-source SDK, simulator and RL training stack on GitHub — this is an education and research toy, not a labor-saving device, and Pollen is explicit about that framing.
$1,000–2,000: the most crowded tier
This is where five very different products cluster. The Elephant myCobot 280 is a genuinely industrial-arm form factor shrunk to desktop scale: six axes, a 250 g payload, a 280 mm working radius, starting at $599 for the Arduino-controller version and rising to $849 for the Jetson Nano variant. It’s the cheapest way to learn real collaborative-robot programming (Python, ROS, Blockly) rather than a simulator.
The An’An Panda is a soft, panda-shaped companion device that launched in Europe at IFA Berlin 2026 for $1,000–1,500 — well above the sub-$600 figure Forbes had floated in an earlier preview, and limited to a 100-unit first production run through newly signed German and Belgian distributors.
Two robots straddle the $1,600–1,700 mark from opposite directions. Nori A3, at $1,688 with no deposit, is a laptop-app-controlled home manipulator from a second, limited production batch shipping fall 2026 — a consumer device you train yourself through a “Skills Marketplace,” not a turnkey butler.
$2,000–3,000: quadrupeds and powered assist
Three of the four remaining entries are quadrupeds or exoskeletons. Xiaomi CyberDog 2 launched in China at roughly $1,800 (12,999 CNY) with no successor announced since, though international resellers mark it up toward $3,000. Deep Robotics Lite3 starts at $2,890 for the base RC configuration — a research quadruped whose better-equipped Pro and LiDAR variants run $12,999–18,900, so the entry price buys the platform, not the sensor suite.
Hypershell Halo, at $2,299, is the one powered device on the list: a battery-driven walking exoskeleton rated IP54, pre-ordering as a capped 200-unit “Origin Edition” bundled with a spare battery, shipping late November 2026. Hypershell hasn’t said what it costs once that batch sells out. HeroWear’s Apex 2, by contrast, is a passive textile exosuit — no battery, no motor, just a mechanical clutch cutting muscular strain 20–40% for overhead work — priced at $1,999 for an individually fitted single suit, dropping to about $1,499 per unit in 10-suit corporate packages. Rounding out the tier: Yunji RUN, a hotel delivery robot whose $1,820 figure is a disclosed average selling price from Yunji’s Hong Kong IPO prospectus — not a list price a buyer can walk up to — against Chinese retail listings closer to $3,030. It’s a data point about what hotels actually pay, more than a price you’ll be quoted directly.
Why there’s no humanoid on this list
The gap is the finding. Full-size or even research-scale bipedal humanoids don’t exist below $4,000 anywhere in our index — Unitree R1 AIR at $4,900 ($5,900 standard) is the floor, and the next cheapest after that is around $12,000. Legs, balance control, and enough actuators to stay upright cost real money regardless of how aggressively a Chinese manufacturer prices the rest of the bill of materials. Microduck gets close to the humanoid form factor at $399, but it does so by being 25 cm tall and 0.8 kg — a desktop teaching tool, not a scaled-down version of anything that walks a factory floor.
What this money doesn’t buy
Every entry on this list trades something for its price. The myCobot’s 250 g payload rules out anything but teaching and light pick-and-place. Go2’s Air configuration has none of the compute or LiDAR that make the EDU tier useful for autonomy research. CyberDog 2 and Lite3’s base prices get you the chassis, not the sensor packages their higher configurations carry. Three of the eleven — Microduck, Nori A3, and Hypershell Halo — are pre-orders with promised, not guaranteed, ship dates. And An’An Panda’s 100-unit run means “for sale” doesn’t currently mean “in stock at scale.” Cheap and capable are different axes; this list sorts only by the first one.
