That last sentence matters as much as the numbers before it. The humanoid market in 2026 splits cleanly into robots you can give money for and robots you can only read about, and most of the prices that circulate online belong to the second category. Under $15,000: the research floor
This is the tier that didn’t exist three years ago. Today it has three shipping products, all Chinese, all buyable through a manufacturer store without a sales call.

Who buys here: universities, robotics clubs, individual researchers, and developers who need a real bipedal platform rather than a simulator. The R1 is the cheapest full humanoid on open sale anywhere — a 121 cm, 26-DoF machine at the price of a used motorcycle. The G1 at $13,500 is the de facto standard lab humanoid, but note the fine print: the base configuration is $13,500, while EDU configurations sold through US resellers run $43,900–73,900 across 12 variants. The robot is cheap; the developer-grade version of the robot is not. More on that gap below.
One caveat for this tier: these are research machines. Battery life is measured in single-digit hours (the G1 runs about 2), and nobody at this price is promising your robot will fold laundry unsupervised.
$20,000–50,000: pilots and the first home humanoids
The middle tier is where the market gets interesting in 2026, because it now contains two very different kinds of buyer: businesses running their first manipulation pilots, and actual consumers pre-ordering robots for their homes.

The home humanoids cluster at the bottom of this tier — and one of them undercuts it entirely. Weave’s Isaac 1 hits $7,999 by cheating honestly: a wheeled base with a height-adjustable torso (91–175 cm) instead of legs, which removes the single most expensive engineering problem in the category. 1X’s NEO at $20,000 (or a $499/month subscription) is the first bipedal home humanoid with a real checkout page, with the disclosed caveat that early units learn household tasks partly through teleoperation — a human operator in the loop, not pure autonomy.

$50,000–150,000+: enterprise machines
Above $50,000, list prices largely disappear. You are buying through sales teams, and the number on the contract depends on volume, configuration, and how much integration support comes with it.

Who buys here: factories, warehouses, pharmacies, and well-funded research institutions. UBTech’s Walker S2 — the one that swaps its own battery in three minutes — has no public price at all; estimates run $68k–120k per unit at small volumes, with early adopters around $90k, and mass production is underway against an order book over 800 million CNY. Galbot’s wheeled G1 is the consumer-visible exception: the ~$87,000 model (630,000 CNY) actually sold out on JD.com after the 2026 Spring Festival Gala, and pharmacy deployments run about $96,000.
Agility’s Digit is mostly rented, not bought: illustratively $8,500 a month (about $100k/year) per the June 2026 investor deck, or $30 an hour, with direct purchase around $150,000 including integration support. The three most famous humanoid robots on Earth cannot be purchased at any price. This is not a technicality — it is the single most misunderstood fact in every “humanoid robot price” search result. The buyer for this tier is, precisely, nobody; the units that exist go to internal programs and contracted partners (BMW’s Spartanburg plant for Figure, the Hyundai Metaplant and Google DeepMind for Atlas — whose entire 2026 output is already spoken for). Why Chinese makers own the floor
Look at the under-$50k tables again: with the exception of two American home-robot startups, every entry is Chinese. That is not an accident of our sample — it reflects two structurally different go-to-market models, visible across every company we track.
Chinese makers sell robots the way consumer electronics are sold: a manufacturer store with a posted price, a spec sheet, and a checkout button. Unitree lists the R1 on AliExpress. Galbot sold robots on JD.com like phones. EngineAI posts a retail price in CNY for its education SKU. Posted prices create price competition — Unitree cut prices across its quadruped line in 2026 ahead of its IPO, and the H2 humanoid launched at $29,900 against the H1’s $90,000.
US and European makers, Boston Dynamics and Figure foremost, sell through enterprise programs: no list price, negotiated contracts, deployment support bundled in, and — at the famous end — no sales at all. That model optimizes for deep partner relationships and controlled deployments, not for volume. It also means that if you type “buy humanoid robot” into a search bar with less than $50,000, essentially every robot that can take your money is Chinese. The exceptions, 1X’s NEO and Weave’s Isaac 1, are pre-orders from startups deliberately importing the consumer-electronics playbook.
What actually drives the cost
Humanoid prices are not arbitrary. Four line items explain most of the spread between a $5,900 R1 and a $150,000 GR-2.
Actuators. Joints are the raw material of a humanoid. High-torque actuators — PNDbotics builds its Adam around modular quasi-direct-drive units delivering up to 360 N·m — are the reason a full-size, high-DoF machine cannot be cheap. Smaller robots with modest torque budgets (the 25 kg R1, the 30 kg Booster T1) economize here first.
Hands and degrees of freedom. DoF is the cleanest single proxy for price. The $13,500 G1 has 23 DoF; Fourier’s GR-3 has 55, and its GR-2 carries 12-DoF hands. The starkest data point in our index: Unitree’s H1 listed at $90,000, and the H1-2 — essentially the same platform with hands — sold for $148,235. Dexterous hands can cost as much as the rest of the robot.
Compute and sensors. Onboard AI compute, depth cameras, and LiDAR separate a teleoperated shell from a machine that can perceive its environment. This is a large part of why “EDU” and “developer” configurations cost multiples of base models.
Batteries. Legs are hungry. The G1 runs about 2 hours; NEO claims 4; the wheeled Galbot G1 claims 10 — wheels are cheaper than legs in capex and in watt-hours. Kepler’s K2 carries a 2.33 kWh pack rated for roughly 8 hours, and UBTech’s answer on the Walker S2 is a robot that swaps its own battery in 3 minutes rather than a bigger pack.
Teleoperation and operations. The newest cost center isn’t hardware at all. NEO’s household skills rely partly on human operators; Digit ships with a service organization behind it. When a robot’s usefulness depends on an ops team, part of the price — especially subscription pricing — is payroll, not parts.
Total cost of ownership: beyond the sticker
The sticker is the beginning of the invoice, not the end of it.
Shipping and import. Most affordable humanoids ship from China. Freight for a 30–70 kg robot in a crate, customs brokerage, and import duties can add meaningfully to a low-five-figure purchase — one reason the same Booster T1 that costs about $22,000 in China lists at $29,800+ through US resellers and from €39,000 including tax in the EU. Regional price gaps are mostly logistics and tax, not margin.
The SDK tax. The advertised base price rarely includes full developer access. The clearest example in our index: the Unitree G1 at $13,500 base, versus $43,900–73,900 for EDU configurations with developer-grade access and hardware options. If you are buying to write code, budget for the EDU tier from the start — the gap between the marketing price and the working price can be 3–5x.
Spares and repairs. Bipedal robots fall down; that is a maintenance schedule, not a possibility. Budget for spare limbs and actuator modules, and check whether the maker actually operates a parts channel in your region — Fourier’s GR-2, for instance, has no North American sales channel at all.
Integration. For business deployments, the robot is a component of a system. Agility’s ~$150,000 direct price notably includes integration support; where it isn’t included, safety assessment, workflow programming, charging infrastructure, and staff training are your problem and your budget.
Subscriptions. The monthly options — NEO at $499/month, Isaac 1 at $449/month, Digit at ~$8,500/month — reprice robots as services. Over three years, a $499/month NEO costs about $18k, close to the $20,000 outright price; the subscription is less a discount than a returnable trial with the maker keeping the upgrade path.
Targets vs offers: the honest read on Optimus, Figure and Atlas
This is the section that most price guides get wrong, so let us be precise about three numbers you have probably seen.
Tesla Optimus “$20,000–30,000.” That figure is Musk’s long-term, at-scale target, and it is doing a lot of work. As of mid-2026 there is no MSRP, no public sales channel, no pre-order, and no waitlist; current unit cost is estimated at $50k–100k, Gen 3 production is expected at Fremont later in 2026, and analyst consensus puts consumer sales at 2028–2029. The target may eventually be met. It is not a price today, and treating it as one distorts every comparison it appears in.
Figure’s $20,000 consumer talk. Same structure: the widely quoted $20,000 for Figure 03 is a stated consumer target, not an offer. There is no pre-order or retail channel; every unit goes to internal programs and partner deployments like BMW Spartanburg, and enterprise pricing is negotiated case by case. Atlas “estimates.” Boston Dynamics’ electric Atlas debuted as a production machine at CES 2026, and still has no MSRP — analyst estimates run roughly $130k–320k, with some as high as ~$420k. Estimates of what a contracted robot would cost are not quotes, and you cannot request one: the entire 2026 output is contracted to Hyundai’s Metaplant and Google DeepMind, with Hyundai targeting 30,000 units a year by 2028.
There is also a halfway category worth naming: Kepler’s K2 Forerunner has a stated target retail range of $20k–30k — plausible, and closer to reality than Optimus’s, since the robot ships to corporate customers today — but there is still no open price list. A target attached to a shipping product is more credible than a target attached to a demo; it is still not a checkout page.

Researcher or educator. Business running a pilot. Resist the biped premium. Wheeled platforms — Galbot’s G1 at ~$87k–96k with 10-hour endurance — deliver more shift-hours per dollar in flat facilities than any legged machine. Early-adopter home user. You have exactly two real options as of 2026-08, both pre-orders: 1X NEO at $20,000 (or $499/month) and Weave’s Isaac 1 at $7,999 (or $449/month). Go in with both caveats priced in: deliveries are promises, not warehouse inventory, and early capability leans on teleoperation — part of what your robot does will be a human doing it remotely.
