LG's humanoid robot plan: a 2027 unveiling, an Nvidia chip, and no price
LG and Nvidia said this month that LG is building a bipedal humanoid on Nvidia’s Isaac GR00T foundation model and Jetson Thor compute module, with a public unveiling targeted for the first quarter of 2027. LG chairman Kwang Mo Koo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang framed it as part of a broader “physical AI” push that also includes an Nvidia Vera Rubin-powered AI factory reference site (first half of 2027) and an 80 MW factory in Cheonan, South Korea (first half of 2028).
What the announcement doesn’t include is more telling than what it does: no height, weight, degrees of freedom, payload, battery life or price — nothing that would let anyone evaluate the robot as a product rather than a slide. The only concrete 2026 commitment is deploying LG’s existing wheeled CLOiD robot to a washing-machine plant in Tennessee, with results meant to inform a later push into “global facilities, homes, and commercial spaces.” A wheeled logistics robot doing pilot work is a real, near-term thing; a bipedal humanoid with an 18-month runway to first reveal is not.
That gap is the same one running through most large-company humanoid announcements this year. Compare it with what’s actually on sale today: Unitree’s G1 at $13,500 for the base configuration, or 1X’s NEO at $20,000 for Early Access with a firm 2026 US delivery window. Both have published prices, order pages and real degrees-of-freedom specs. LG has none of that yet — just a chip partner, a timeline measured in years, and a name-brand balance sheet ($140B in annual revenue) behind it.
LG isn’t new to service robotics — its CLOi ServeBot has been sold through US resellers for years — so the company has commercial robot experience to draw on. Whether that translates into a humanoid with a real price tag by 2027 is exactly the kind of claim this index exists to check. We’ll update this entry when LG publishes specs or a number.
