As of August 2026, the arms in our index run from about $10,000 at the low end of Dobot CR5 reseller pricing to $48,000 for typical US quotes on a Universal Robots UR5e. That is the arm. It is not the project. A fully deployed cell — gripper, safety, integration, programming — runs $45,000–65,000 around a FANUC LR Mate and about $60,000 around a UR5e, per the same distributor guidance our arm prices come from.

The rule that matters: the arm is a third of the bill
The most useful thing this page can tell you is not any single price. It is the ratio.
Distributor guidance in our data puts a fully deployed FANUC LR Mate cell at $45,000–65,000 — against an arm-plus-controller guide price of $17,500–20,000 in typical trim. A full UR5e cell with gripper and integration lands around $60,000 against an arm price of $32,000–38,000. For KUKA, the pattern is stated directly: the KR AGILUS line starts around $25,000, and integration, tooling and software add $10,000–50,000 on top.
Run the arithmetic and the arm is somewhere between a third and two-thirds of the deployed cost, clustering near the low end of that band for traditional industrial arms. The rest goes to things that never appear in a product photo: the gripper or end-of-arm tooling, machine vision if the parts aren’t perfectly presented, safety scanners or fencing, the cell layout itself, and — the perennially underestimated line — the integrator’s hours programming and commissioning the thing.
This is why “I found the same arm $8,000 cheaper” is a less impressive sentence than it sounds. On a $60,000 project, an $8,000 saving on the arm is real money, but a mediocre integrator can burn multiples of that in schedule slip and rework. Price the cell, then price the arm inside it.
Cobot vs industrial arm: what the price difference buys
Four of our six arms are collaborative robots (cobots): the Dobot CR5, JAKA Zu 7, UR5e — and, at the traditional end, the FANUC LR Mate and KUKA Agilus represent classic caged industrial arms, with the Estun ER6 as the Chinese tier-1 industrial entry.
The cobot pitch is that force-limited operation and simpler programming let you skip some of the fencing and much of the integration labor — which attacks exactly the two-thirds of the bill discussed above. The traditional-arm pitch is speed, rigidity and decades of process maturity at a lower hardware price: note that the FANUC arm ($17,500–25,000) undercuts the UR5e ($32,000–48,000) substantially, and the deployed-cell figures ($45k–65k vs ~$60k) end up in the same neighborhood. You are choosing where to spend, not whether.
Then there is the Chinese price layer, which restructures the question again:
- JAKA positions the Zu 7 at 30–40% below Universal Robots at comparable specs — our estimate range is $12,000–18,000 against the UR5e’s $32,000–48,000, and even the marked-up Indian dealer listings (₹14.5–19.5 lakh, roughly $17,500–23,400) stay below UR’s floor.
- Estun sells the ER6 quote-only with no reliable public figure at all — but the guide in our data is blunt: Chinese tier-1 OEMs sell equivalent 6-axis robots 30–60% below Japanese and European peers, i.e. well under the FANUC LR Mate’s $17,500–25,000.
What do you give up for that discount? Not payload or reach, mostly. You give up ecosystem: the global service network, the deep bench of certified integrators, the decades of application libraries, and — for some buyers — procurement comfort. Whether that is worth a 30–60% hardware premium depends on how far you are from the nearest service engineer and how exotic your application is. For a straightforward machine-tending cell in a region with local support, the Chinese discount is increasingly hard to argue with; for a 24/7 line where an hour of downtime costs more than the robot, the premium buys real insurance.

Dobot CR5 / CR5A — $10,000 to $24,320
The CR5 is the budget cobot with the most confusing price signal in our table, and the confusion is instructive. Some resellers quote the CR5 at $10,000–20,000; a major US reseller lists the CR5 from $22,980 and the updated CR5A from $24,320. Same 5 kg payload cobot, more than 2× spread depending on which channel you ask.
The lesson: for Chinese arms sold through multiple channels, region and reseller matter as much as the model name. Get more than one quote, and ask explicitly whether the figure includes the controller and pendant. JAKA Zu 7 — $12,000 to $18,000 (estimated)
JAKA’s Zu 7 is the clearest expression of the Chinese cobot strategy: comparable specs to the market leader, explicitly priced 30–40% below it. Our $12,000–18,000 range is an estimate — JAKA does not publish list prices — with Indian dealer listings at roughly $17,500–23,400 marking the upper bound once local markups are applied.
At 22 kg with a 7 kg payload, it undercuts the UR5e’s quote range by roughly half. If your evaluation is purely spec-per-dollar, the Zu 7 wins on paper; the questions to pressure-test are local support, spare-parts logistics and software ecosystem, which is where the incumbent premium hides.
FANUC LR Mate 200iD — $17,500 to $25,000
The LR Mate is the small industrial workhorse — the arm you find doing machine tending in ten thousand factories. FANUC sells via quotes with no public list, but the guide prices are well established: $17,500–20,000 typical for arm plus controller, with the /4S variant from about $25,000. A fully deployed cell runs $45,000–65,000.
What the money buys is boring in the best way: proven reliability, a controller ecosystem your integrator already knows, and resale liquidity. It is not collaborative — budget for guarding — but as the deployed-cell figures show, the total project cost lands close to a cobot cell anyway. KUKA KR 6 R900 Agilus — $25,000 to $35,000
The Agilus is the European precision option: a fast, compact 6-axis arm (52 kg — more than twice the mass of the cobots here, which tells you something about its rigidity) sold, like FANUC, via quotes. Base hardware starts around $25,000, and KUKA’s own project arithmetic is the most honest in the industry: integration, tooling and software add $10,000–50,000.
That $10k–50k spread is worth staring at. It means two KUKA cells with identical arms can differ in total cost by 2×, driven entirely by application complexity. When someone asks “what does a KUKA cost,” the truthful answer is a range wider than the arm’s own price.
Universal Robots UR5e — $32,000 to $48,000
The UR5e is the reference cobot — the machine everyone else prices against, including, explicitly, JAKA. UR publishes no list price; distributor guidance puts arm plus controller at $32,000–38,000, typical 2026 US quotes run $35,000–48,000, and we have one concrete US listing at $37,245. A full cell with gripper and integration lands around $60,000.
It is the most expensive arm in our table, and the premium is the point: the largest cobot ecosystem, the most certified integrators, the most off-the-shelf grippers and application kits. That ecosystem is precisely what compresses the integration line — the reason a $37k arm can end up in a $60k cell while a $20k traditional arm ends up in a $45k–65k one. Estun ER6 — quote-only
The ER6 is our window into the largest robot market segment Western buyers never see priced: Chinese tier-1 industrial arms. Estun publishes nothing, sells through suppliers by quote only, and no reliable open figure exists — so we refuse to print one. For a buyer, the ER6 is less a specific recommendation than a negotiating fact: a credible domestic-Chinese alternative exists at a steep discount, and the incumbents know it.
How quote-only pricing works — and how to negotiate it
Three of our six arms (FANUC, KUKA, Estun) have no public price at all, and even UR works through distributor quotes. This is not evasion; it is how industrial capital equipment is sold. The list price would be fiction anyway, because your price depends on volume, region, integrator relationship and what else is in the deal.
Practical notes for the first-time buyer:
- Anchor on the guide price before the first call. Walking in knowing that an LR Mate runs $17,500–20,000 typical changes the conversation. Quotes tend to open high for buyers who arrive without a number.
- Quote the cell, not the arm. Ask for arm, controller, end-of-arm tooling, safety and commissioning as separate line items. Vendors sometimes discount the arm and recover margin in integration — visible only if the quote is itemized.
- Get a Chinese alternative quoted, even if you won’t buy it. A JAKA or Estun quote at 30–60% below the incumbent is the cheapest negotiating leverage available. Incumbents have discount room that only appears when a competitor is in the room.
- Ask about the installed-base discount. Second and third arms price differently from the first. If you plan a multi-cell rollout, say so before the first quote, not after.
The ROI sketch: arm cost vs operator cost
We will not invent payback numbers — labor costs, shift counts and uptime vary too much for a universal figure to be honest. But the framework is simple enough to run on a napkin:
Deployed cell cost ÷ (annual fully-loaded cost of the labor displaced × shifts covered) = years to payback.
The structure of the market makes the levers obvious. A cell in the $45,000–65,000 range (FANUC guide) or around $60,000 (UR guide) is competing against one or more operator-years of fully loaded cost — wages, benefits, turnover, training. The three levers that dominate the outcome:
- Shifts. A robot that runs two or three shifts amortizes against two or three operators’ worth of labor. Single-shift automation is where payback math goes to struggle.
- The integration share. Because the arm is only a third-to-two-thirds of the bill, anything that shrinks integration — a simpler part presentation, a standard gripper, a cobot deployment that avoids fencing — moves payback more than haggling over the arm.
